Full-Time Job: iOS Developer, Falls Church, VA (Viget)

Posted: 23 Nov 2012 08:22 AM PST

Job Title: iOS Developer

Job location: Falls Church, VA

Employer: Viget

Employment Type: Full-Time Job

Job Description

Viget was founded in 1999 by our engineer founders and their geeky dad to build software products for funded start-ups. We never wanted to just be a dev shop though — we wanted to build great software that people really use. So, from the start, we've mixed amazing technical talent with some of the best user experience and interface designers in the business. As our team has grown (now about 50 in 3 offices), we've adopted our own brand of agile-inspired process, led by rock-solid project managers.

Viget has evolved over the years, and so have our clients. We still work with inspiring start-ups like Squidoo, Bypass, Posterous, and Spoonflower. We also work with major companies like Cisco, National Geographic, and PUMA, leveraging our start-up approach to help these brands reach millions of customers around the world. This mix of clients is a big draw for our team. Projects can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 years, and our team members have a big say in what kinds of clients we take on (e.g., no government contracting). To get a feel for how we think and what we're learning about, check out our development blog or our projects on Github.

In addition to the Rails development work we do, we're doing more and more iOS development. The work is especially fun because we have awesome designers at Viget who create beautiful interfaces for the apps we build. The iOS development work we've done to date has been for both Silicon Valley funded start-ups as well as companies like Opower and PUMA. We're not dogmatic about mobile technologies, but when iOS is right for our clients, we eagerly jump in and build applications from end-to-end. We hope you'll join the team and dive into the next crop of projects — 2012 is looking busy!

We're looking for multiple developers with varying levels of experience at all three of our offices. The ideal candidate would work from our Durham, NC office (where our current dedicated iOS developer works).

 iOS Developers | Required

  • Have formal software development training and practical experience building web sites in Rails.
  • Are creative problem-solvers in the truest sense and match that logic with hard work.
  • Enjoy working with others, which is vital in our collaborative environment that balances knowledge sharing with blocks of focused, uninterrupted production time.
  • Speak and write well.
  • Are ravenous about learning new technologies, tackling new challenges, paying attention to details, and, ultimately, growing professionally.
  • Multi-task and hit firm deadlines.
  • Know memory management (both with and without ARC) inside and out.
  • Have a solid understanding of threading abstractions like Grand Central Dispatch and NSOperationQueue.
  • Use and love blocks.
  • Enjoy working with distributed version control systems (Git is our favorite).
  • Care about best practices, including unit testing, code reviews, and iterative development.
  • Love working alongside our award-winning design team.
  • Actively participate in the local developer / technology community

To be considered to work at Viget Labs, you should exhibit these characteristics too.

iOS Developers must also:

  • Have at least 2 years of professional experience developing web applications.
  • Have a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or information systems (or equivalent experience).
