Job Title: Android Developer

Job location: Austin, TX

Employer: MapMyFitness

Employment Type: Full-Time Job

Job Description

We're a start-up. We're building the future of fitness applications on both the web and mobile. MapMyFitness is consistently ranked among the top fitness apps in the world, with 6 million+ members, four+ star iTunes and Android app ratings, and partnerships with NBC, Humana, and Skechers (more coming soon!). We're looking for only the best developers to join our team.

Android Mobile Developer | Responsibilities:

You're a professional software developer. You know computer science regardless of whether you learned it academically, professionally, or by hacking on your own. You explore the breadth of the system and the landscape of available technologies. At the same time, you maintain a laser focus on producing customer value. You crave feedback from your peers and your users. You continually form hypotheses and seek to validate or invalidate them in production by shipping small changes frequently. Your teamwork displays an appreciation for both the spirit and the letter of Agile process. You work hard, and you continually seek ways to work smarter. You gush with optimism without allowing blind spots to prevent you from seeing risks. You avoid the temptation to plagiarize this paragraph as your cover letter. You realize that nobody achieves these ideals, but you try yourself anyway.

Android Developer | Requirements:

  • Java with an emphasis on OO design patterns (MVC, Factory, Command)
  • Android (Android Services, Broadcast Receiver, and Android Activity Lifecycle)
  • Can perform a stirring recitation of Android's user interface guidelines upon request
  • Working with RESTful APIs and JSON is second nature

Benefits:

We provide medical and dental insurance for you, and we share the cost of premiums for your family. Top performers may be eligible for bonuses and equity options. We reimburse you for up to $500 in health & fitness related expenses per year (gym memberships, ski passes, running shoes, cycling gear, etc).

Sound like you? If so, we'd love to hear from you. Please include a cover letter highlighting your relevant experience.

About HotelTonight:

  • HotelTonight offers iPhone, iPad and Android users up to 70% off same-day bookings at top-rated hotels we personally vet

At HotelTonight, we take enormous pride in the product experiences we deliver to both customers and hotel partners. We build amazing products by questioning the standard way of doing things. We are looking for an outstanding Android Developer who shares our passion for beautiful, practical products that earn raves from our peers and our customers.

You may have seen our apps (or even booked a hotel through them!), but you should know that we're far more than an app developer. Because we've built the world's first mobile-only online travel agency, there's a lot of code behind the scenes to process transactions, interface with hotels and determine which ones go on sale each day.

Every day, the team faces the challenges of scaling to support our increased booking volume, building a unified global platform and adapting to the newest mobile technologies, all while keeping our apps fast and our UX clean and simple. To accomplish this, we utilize whatever technology is best to solve a particular problem, not necessarily the one we're currently using.

Android Developer | Responsibilities:

  • Exercise your excellent product sense, collaborate with a small team, and own a story from start to finish.
  • Push the envelope with what is possible with Android, keeping the product true to our core product values of Simplicity, Beauty & Fscking Usefulness, but extending it where we can take advantage of Android-specific functionality.
  • Work with the rest of the team to extend our APIs and other systems to support your ideas.

Android Developer | Requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge of Android SDK, Java and related technologies.
  • A passion for the Android platform – you consider it the best, use it yourself, know it well, and want to make perfect apps for it. You have published apps in Google Play and they have stellar reviews.
  • Excited by and familiar with the tools and methodologies we use for building great software, including Git, Java, a multitude of open source libraries, and tools and techniques for a great development environment.
  • Appreciation for Agile development, continuous integration and beautiful / efficient code
  • Smart yet humble.  Take pride in what you build, question the status quo so we can improve, defend your ideas and respect others' opinions. Everyone here is focused on finding the best solutions to the problems we face.
  • Independent and product-focused. We expect our developers to also define big portions of the products they build. If you want to be handed a complete product spec on your first day, you'd probably be happier working elsewhere.

Perks & Benefits

  • True startup experience — no rules, no bureaucracy, tons of tough decisions with real impacts on the business.
  • A real say in the future of the company — you'll be a valued member of the team whose ideas about how to grow a world class company will be vital to our success.
  • Chance to become an expert in mobile travel while it's a nascent, growing industry.
  • Camaraderie of an amazing team that is working incessantly to build the next great travel company.
  • Great SF office location at 2nd and Mission. (If you don't live in SF, we'll move you here.)
  • Excellent health, dental, vision and 401K plans.  Generous compensation and stock options too!
  • Sweet perks: Annual travel stipend, your choice of equipment and a giant monitor, catered lunches and breakfast several times a week, unlimited coffee and snacks, kegerator and a gong that you'll get to bang when you ship something amazing.

Company Description

We develop the world's best apps for booking last-minute hotel rooms at the lowest rates available. HotelTonight was built from the ground up for mobile and reflects what we feel is vital in mobile-commerce design: simplicity, beautiful aesthetics and merchandising, and solid value.
