Job Title: iOS Developer
Job location: Boulder, CO
Employer: Occipital
Employment Type: Full-Time Job
Job Description
Are you someone who deeply understands the bleeding edge of the Apple frameworks from the bare metal on up to the higher level APIs? Are you outrageously detail oriented? Then we really want to meet you.
We've been pushing the boundaries of what's possible with iOS since late 2008 with mobile computer vision apps like RedLaser (acquired by eBay in 2010) and 360 Panorama. We're not just an "app company." We strive to change the world through our products and their underlying state-of-the-art computer vision technology, all of which is built from scratch by our broadly-talented team.
We need someone who knows exactly what the Apple iOS SDK is doing under the covers and can help us build innovative computer vision applications the right way.iOS Developer | Requirements
- Real artists ship – You have a strong desire to help build something that is the best in the world and ship it.
- Details matter – You believe everything should have a reason, down to the placement of a button and the text of an error message.
- You write bulletproof, well-commented and reusable code.
- Thorough knowledge of memory management on iOS is ingrained in you. You can optimize the memory footprint of an app, avoid memory leaks like the plague, and you know what NSZombieEnabled is.
- You can recite the exact setup / teardown process that UIKit follows for UIViewController and UIViews in your sleep.
- You've worked with AV Foundation, know what YCbCr is, and perhaps you've even written a camera-based application.
- You've built a game or other graphics-based app using Open GL ES 2.0 and think pixel shaders are the best thing since sliced bread.
- You've built an app that is live on the App Store that we can try.
Full-Time Job: iOS Mobile Developer, Pittsburgh, PA (Deeplocal)

Job Title: iOS Mobile Developer
Job location: Pittsburgh, PA
Employer: Deeplocal
Employment Type: Full-Time Job
Job Description
Deeplocal – http://deeplocal.com - @deeplocal
DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT FOR HUMANS AND MACHINES
#1 Best Small Place to Work in Western PA in 2012 http://goo.gl/pqGQw
#1 Small Advertising Agency of the Year NE in 2011 http://goo.gl/EIYNN
iOS Developer
Deeplocal has multiple immediate openings for iOS Developers with experience writing native iPhone applications.
OPEN HOUSE
Deeplocal is having an open house on Thursday, January 31st starting at 6pm at our studio 2124 Penn Ave. We will have alcohol, music, and free tattoos (by Jason Angst http://www.jasonangst.com). It's a good chance to meet us in person.
Here's the deal…
We haven't written typical job descriptions for any of our current openings. You should thoroughly review the work of Deeplocal before applying. We understand that you may be working somewhere else right now and that's ok. WE WILL KEEP YOUR APPLICATION CONFIDENTIAL.
You should look at our projects and be able to say "yes I could do that… maybe even better." Deeplocal is a collaborative work environment, but we require a high level of proficiency from our talent. If you are applying to write apps, then you should know how to write apps. If you are applying to build web pages, show us that you can work with Rails or similar and build fast with design consideration. Be prepared to show us what you can do—by showing us what you have done.
I don't think I can stress the importance of being able to work well on tight timelines enough. The reward is that we do cool work that we can all point to and be proud of. We are building a company that will last and we are making our base here in Pittsburgh.
So when you're considering a job at Deeplocal, all you have to go on is the job title and our portfolio of work. We collaborate often, so you'll never be left out to dry, but you will be asked to own projects. You will always have a team behind you to support you when you make mistakes though. Less talk more rock is the philosophy in the studio.
Have ideas? We love that too. We are a highly creative company that spun out of an art group. There is always an opportunity to get involved on the creative side. We all have ideas and Deeplocal allows us all to bring them to life by working together.
Yes, we work in advertising and you might think that's not your thing. Don't let that make you nervous. We've adapted a lot since we founded Deeplocal: we started as a software company that spun out of an art group that spun out of a punk band. Forget the titles and the industry. We care about making cool work that we can be proud of. We work in a lot of areas that most advertising agencies do not: product design, innovation consulting, industrial design, and fabrication.
We just moved into a 14k sq foot office in the Strip District that we renovated ourselves. An entire floor is devoted to a machine shop and a second floor serves as desk space. It's an old loft-style flour mill with two freight elevators, tall ceilings, exposed brick, and a rooftop view of downtown and the Allegheny River. It's rad.
We still love Pittsburgh and sponsor a lot of the groups and people that are helping to make the city even better, including Quantum Theatre, Mattress Factory, Gateway to the Arts, Bill Peduto, Dan Gilman, and others.
We work with some pretty amazing direct clients, including MillerCoors, Reebok, American Eagle Outfitters, TBS, NatGeo, GOOD Magazine, Google, AirFrance, DirectTV. We also work with some of the best agencies in the world, including: Ogilvy, Saatchi&Saatchi, Wieden+Kennedy, and Mother.
We've presented at SXSW (we're speaking again this year), been talked about in major media like Gizmodo, Yahoo, Wired, Fast Company, and Engadget, received awards from The One Club, Contagious, Cannes, Webbys, Communication Arts, and Print, and been featured on a BloombergTV special. We're not bragging, we're just proud of what we are able to do together and if you are capable and want to do this type of work, we are the company for you.
We are growing. We've doubled in size in the last six months. We're still a small company but this is an exciting time if you want to do something amazing. As Patrick said once about Deeplocal, "Where else can you work on a project for two weeks and get on Wired or Engadget?"
LikeBelt on Engadget: http://goo.gl/4PTZ0
Toyota Prius Mind Bike on Wired: http://goo.gl/cdHXN
So if after you read this (and you review what we do), you think what you do fits the title and you can contribute, please apply. As I said, I know you may be at another company. WE WILL KEEP YOUR APPLICATION HERE WITH ONLY FOUR PEOPLE AT DEEPLOCAL. Literally. It will be reviewed by Nathan (me), Kristin, Heather, and Patrick.
Thanks for reading this long posting,
Nathan
