Android Developer | Requirements

The developer demonstrates strong skills in the definition and construction of Android applications using the Eclipse development IDE and the Android SDK. The candidate should demonstrate strong skills in the development of Android UIs using  Android layouts, view and dialog elements. The candidate can specify, with access to Android SDK documentation, a basic Linear Layout which implements a visual wireframe mockup which may require vertical scrolling support. The candidate differentiates the necessary application of Linear, Frame, Relative, Table and Grid layouts. The candidate demonstrates working knowledge of the variety of Themes,Styles, and Resource types and the Drawable class. A basic understanding of Fragments is desired. Competence in the design of Menus and Action Bars is required. OpenGL experience is not required.

Expertise using the HTTPClient and HTTPURLConnection is required. The candidate must demonstrate a substantial working knowledge of REST-based services and the parsing/interpretation of XML and JSON.

The candidate demonstrates expertise with the basic Android app constructs including Activities, Services, Intents, Broadcast Receivers, messaging, Handlers and Runnables, Alarms and the related security options and their appropriate application. Experience with the Location Service, Geocoding and MapActivities is desired.

The candidate demonstrates expertise with the Java programming language. The candidate demonstrates the ability to analyze existing code using the IDE and determine its function. The candidate demonstrates expertise using the Eclipse Android debugging environment.

The candidate demonstrates expertise accessing the android file systems(s) and determining when internal and SD card storage should be used. The candidate demonstrates working knowledge of  the SQLLite database and User Preferences and understands issues that arise across app version updates with schema changes.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate substantial expertise using the android Telephony, WiFi and SMS managers.
